Tarver Summer Internship Program

New Opportunity for Social Work Students

The Tarver Summer Internship Program was established to honor the exceptional accomplishments of Marie Tarver, a long time respected community leader, and her husband, the late Rupert Tarver, a renowned civil rights pioneer in the Hudson River Valley. Tarver interns work under the guidance and direction of a Marist faculty member for a summer-long, 3-credit independent study arrangement. Participants receive a substantial stipend, 3 free tuition credits, and free on-campus housing for the duration of the program.

Dahley Turner is the first recipient of a Tarver internship. A Social Work major, Dahley worked with Associate Professor of Social Work Daria Hanssen and the Liberty Partnership Program on a summer-long project. Dahley created a self-confidence building curriculum for the teens participating in the program and then developed a pre/post measurement tool to assess if the curriculum had an impact on their self-confidence. She presented her findings from her study "Resiliency and Self-Confidence Among At-Risk Adolescents" to the Marist community in the fall.
