The Biology Department at Marist offers the BS in Biology with two exciting concentrations, Biological Sciences and Human Biology, as well as the BS in Biomedical Sciences. Megan Dennis

Dr. Dennis and her students use cell biology techniques to investigate protein trafficking during biogenesis of lysosome related organelles. Disruption of these processes can result in albinism, bleeding disorders and other impacts on human health. She also leads freshmen researchers in phage hunting as part of the SEA-PHAGES program.

Raymond Kepner

Having affiliations with the Phycological Society of America,the Northeast Algal Society, the International Society for Microbial Ecology, and more, Dr. Kepner鈥檚 research focuses on the microbial ecology of aquatic and polar systems; extremophiles; exobiology; bacterial and cyanobacterial viruses; protozoology; ice-covered lakes; and freshwater ecotoxicology.

Luis Espinasa

Having published over 40 articles with students as authors or co-authors on his work, Dr. Espinasa鈥檚 research focuses primarily on cave biology, evolution of blindness and depigmentation, and taxonomy of nicoletiid insects. He is also the director of the Marist Hiking Group.

Meaningful Undergraduate Research as Early as First Year

While field research and faculty-student research may be reserved for graduate students at other institutions, at Marist we believe engaging in hands-on research with field experts is essential to the undergraduate learning experience. As a Marist Biology student, you鈥檒l be conducting research in the field as early as your first year.

Inspired to shoot hoops and serve, Jackie Piddock '26, a biology major, is a point guard for the Red Foxes and recently completed Marine Corps officer training. When she's not scoring on the court, she's immersed in her psychology and human bio studies preparing for her dream job as a U.S. Navy medic. Jackie is more than a DI athlete鈥攕he's a leader on the court and in her community.
