A focused program to develop a diverse drawing portfolio. A focused program to develop a diverse drawing portfolio. Various materials and drawing methods will be introduced in order to establish personal styles and explore aesthetic identities. Working in a professional studio setting, students will be introduced to diverse drawing techniques that focus on representation and interpretation of objects as well as natural forms. In addition to the strong focus on fine craftsmanship, proper terminology used in the studio art field shall be introduced. Students will develop an active sketchbook practice that serves as the reference for proper planning, project initiation and development of a strong subject matter. Upon completion of this course, students will create a professional body of work that will serve as their art portfolio.
Some drawing sessions will take place outdoors, on-campus. A field trip to New York City will be included in this summer experience. Students will have an opportunity to visit one of the top museums in New York City to expand their research, in addition to experiencing and exploring the culture of New York City.

Marist Summer Pre-College is geared towards rising juniors and seniors in high school. Upon successful completion of the Intro. to Studio Art Program, each student will earn three (3) transferable college credits for the Marist course, ART197: Drawing Intensive.
Cost includes:
Cost does not include travel expenses. Students may wish to bring funds for incidentals, shopping at the Marist Bookstore or the local mall, souvenirs, and any personal items they wish to purchase. Students should bring a laptop for their coursework.
