Sports Communication for Success in the Field
Marist鈥檚 Sports Communication concentration within the Communication major goes beyond scores and statistics. You will read and analyze sports in new ways, critically examining the role of sports in society and considering such areas as gender, race, and public policy in the context of sports. With a unique combination of theory and practice, you鈥檒l have real-world experience in sports communication long before you enter the industry after graduation.

Studying in the Sports Communication concentration at Marist, you will gain both a vast understanding of the communication industry as a whole and develop in-depth knowledge of the sports communication field. Center for Sports Communication
Marist鈥檚 Center for Sports Communication is a global leader in the study of and practice in sports communication, helping to prepare an enlightened and engaged group of future leaders in one of society鈥檚 most far-reaching disciplines. The Center has achieved national and international recognition for the unique educational experiences it provides to undergraduates. You'll have the opportunity to work on industry-standard sports shows, participate in sports research, and learn from titans in the Sports Communication industry.

Sports Communication students at Marist are uniquely positioned with access to a wide range of hands-on opportunities as part of your academic experience. Not only does the Sports Communication concentration require an internship to ensure your success post-graduation, but we work closely with you to determine the best on- or off-campus experience for your interests. You鈥檒l have access to:

- ESPN Control Room: produce NCAA Division I basketball and volleyball games for broadcast on ESPN3 and ESPN+.
- Center for Sports Communication: produce sports podcasts, conduct sports communication research with leading faculty, and engage with industry professionals.
- : write and produce high quality sports stories for this student-run online publication.
Develop The Skills Needed To Succeed
Public Presentation
Develop skill and confidence in public presentation environments, from running meetings to presenting at conferences.
Multimedia Production
You will be able to produce stories for all forms of media, including but not limited to print, digital, visual, and audio production.
Writing
Develop your reporting, writing, and editing skills.
Research Skills
Learn to do informed research in order to produce knowledgeable stories.
Relationship-Building
Through interactions with various sports industry professionals, you'll be able to facilitate relationships and build a personal network.
Media Convergence
Develop a multifaceted and diverse approach to sports communication through examining areas such as social media, public relations, organizational communication and interpersonal communication.
