Dr. Vincent Corcoran

Assistant Professor of Psychology

Bio

Dr. Vincent Corcoran received his PhD in clinical psychology from Fordham University. He has extensive psychotherapy training across a variety of clinical settings and completed his APA-accredited predoctoral internship at Montefiore Medical Center/Albert Einstein College of Medicine. Dr. Corcoran primarily works from a cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) perspective in the treatment of mood and anxiety disorders. His approach also incorporates evidence-based principles from "third wave" cognitive-behavioral approaches such as dialectical behavior therapy (DBT) and acceptance and commitment therapy (ACT).

Dr. Corcoran鈥檚 research centers around risk for suicide and non-suicidal self-injury (NSSI). He is particularly interested in exploring how online behaviors might influence the onset, maintenance, and cessation of NSSI and whether certain aspects of online social connectedness may protect against suicidal behavior among certain stigmatized populations. He has also explored suicide risk and psychological wellness within mental health professionals by examining burnout and the impact of certain occupational factors related to the practice of providing psychotherapy.

Beyond research, Dr. Corcoran has a passion for mentoring students and enjoys helping them decide how to pursue a career in the mental health field that best fits their skill set and professional goals. Additionally, he has a love for the Hudson Valley and lives in the area with his spouse and their dog Navi (Yes, named after Link鈥檚 companion in the video game Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time).
