Bio
Joe Nixon is an economic sociologist with a background in mathematics and higher education. His work stems from his longstanding interest in understanding the potential of entrepreneurship and business to address social ills, including social inequality, stratification, and persistent poverty. Joe鈥檚 research examines the global proliferation of social enterprise, including its spread as an organizational form and its prominence as a cultural theme.
Before he entered academia, Joe was a manager in student affairs, where he mentored, advised, and supported students at various universities in the United States. He also spent several years in industry as a sales and marketing consultant, collaborating with hundreds of small business owners to address a variety of challenges they faced. As an instructor, Joe leverages his practical and theoretical knowledge of organizations and his experience working with young adults to prepare students for productive careers.
