Technology Open House

Sunday, November 12, 2023 @ 10 a.m.

Join us for our Technology Open House to learn more about our technology majors, including Computer Science, Cybersecurity, Data Science & Analytics, Game Design and Programming, and Information Technology and Systems. You'll have the opportunity to hear directly from the Dean of the School of Computer Science and Mathematics, and mingle with our faculty and students in our breakout tours that showcase our facilities.

Gain Foundational Knowledge to Expand Your Career Opportunities

While providing a common foundation in computing and business, the Information Technology Systems major branches out into two concentrations geared toward specific career goals.

  • : this concentration prepares students in networking technologies, web technologies, and multimedia. Learn hardware and software, web development technology and e-commerce, and the design of graphical interfaces.
  • : develop a balance of technical and business skills that are pertinent to the development, implementation, and maintenance of information systems. Focus on topics like business intelligence, data measures, data warehouses, and information quality.

Each concentration is also available as a minor for students outside the Information Technology and Systems major. We encourage you to utilize our unique 鈥渁cademic triangle鈥� by combining your major with a variety of other majors and minors to customize your academic path toward your specific career goals.

Andrew P. Tokash

Having worked at IBM in Poughkeepsie, his career included roles in hardware engineering, process development, and both mechanical and industrial engineering. He also has extensive software experience in a variety of programming languages and was responsible for architecting and coding two worldwide logistics applications.
Eitel J.M. Laur铆a

Prof. Laur铆a has worked in the IS/IT industry for 20+ years, serving as a technology consultant to IBM, Microsoft, ExxonMobil, Reuters, Hewlett Packard, GE Global Research, and the World Bank among other global corporations. He has also been the recipient of the Marist Board of Trustees Distinguished Teaching Award.
Carolyn C. Matheus

Dr. Matheus focuses her research on systems analysis and design, human computer interaction, data and information quality, data analytics, and project management. She was the recipient of The National Society of Leadership and Success award for Excellence in Teaching and is also the Director of the Honors program at Marist.

Apply Your Learning with Hands-On Opportunities Outside the Classroom

At Marist, we believe that opportunities for experiential learning are essential to a well-rounded education, and the Information Technology and Systems programs are no exception. Whether you participate in the Marist/IBM Joint Study program or take exciting and unique hands-on elective courses, there are always opportunities to learn by doing. For example, students in the Robotics course solve real world robotics problems using techniques including reactive control, PID (Proportional, Integral, Derivative) turning, and localization and path planning by implementing a potential fields algorithm.

The School of Computer Science and Mathematics has provided me with so many opportunities that I am not sure I would have been able to have elsewhere, from working in the Marist/IBM Joint Study during my freshman summer to completing independent projects with excellent teachers to getting data center experience under my belt on campus and even on the main floor at IBM in Poughkeepsie.
