Global Fashion Merchandising Courses
Taught by an international faculty and working professionals in the field of fashion, this 36-credit, M.S. degree will expose students to the most current best practices in merchandising, social media and communication, supply chain management, logistics, and brand management.

Mega-Trend Analysis
3 credits
Anticipation of change and well-timed response to change are some of the most powerful tools in industry success. This course looks carefully at emerging mega-trends that will change the face of business, production, and society. Topics will include impending movement of social values, technology, eMobility, urbanization, medicine, transport, connectivity and convergence of products, technologies, and industries that will change the world.

Supply Chain Management

Skillful management of the supply chain has a far-reaching impact on the success of any international business. This course takes into consideration the components of an effective supply chain, including demand forecasting, sourcing, transport, and pricing of products, as well as the impact of rapidly changing technology on the modern fashion industry.

Global Business Policy in Textiles & Apparel

This course examines the impact of globalization on the fashion industry in regard to markets, production, world trade, and international economics. Considerations of the fashion industry will be placed in a global context in regard to regulation/deregulation, market economy, labor practices, and cultural implications.

Global Consumer Behavior
3 credits
The impact of globalization on consumer behavior has been far-reaching. This course will review the effects of cross-cultural consumer behavior, compare and contrast values and culture, and discuss convergence and divergence in consumer behavior. The importance of culture will also be studied, in regard to all aspects of the human being 鈥 self, personality, and relationships.

Brand Environment

The growth of global fashion brands spans all markets from luxury to mass fashion. This course examines the critical assets and challenges regarding international positioning, cross-cultural considerations, brand transparency, social media impact, and adaptation to changing world conditions.

Executive Seminar Series
3 credits
This course brings students in contact with leading executives from the fashion industry. Seminars take place during the January winter intersession of study on the Marist New York campus. Executives will present an overview of their careers and a commentary on their areas of expertise 鈥 leadership, product development, HR management, etc. Students will have the opportunity to ask questions and network with these industry professionals. The culmination of this seminar series is the opportunity for students to create a self-assessment guided by an HR specialist, determining their strengths as well as areas in need of improvement as they move toward careers as the next generation of leaders within the fashion industry.

Retailing Universe

This course examines three major forces of commerce 鈥 changing technology, business development, and social issues. Topics will include the infrastructure of e-commerce, the evolution of sites and apps, security systems, business models, marketing and advertising.

Fashion Analytics & Technology
3 credits
Analytics provide measurable insights into the fashion industry, whether in sales effectiveness, analysis of trend at retail or on the runway, or efficiency of marketing and media expenditures. This rapidly developing system of harvesting and analyzing data is changing the way in which the fashion industry does business. This course examines the theory and execution of the process and familiarizes the student with the methodologies that will impact an executive-level career.

Profitability & Strategic Planning

The elements of a strategic plan including mission statement, vision statement, values statement, competitive advantage, short-term, and long-term goals and objectives, profitability and financial assessment through the evaluation of key performance indicators are discussed as components of a model for achieving a balance between business success and profitability.

Social Responsibility

This course offers an exploration of the cultures and peoples impacted by globalization within the fashion industry. Considerations of both corporate and executive responsibility in regard to ethics, management, and appropriate reactions to changing environments will be explored. The topics will be studied in order to inform the future executive of factors of decision-making within a complex environment.

Multi-Channel Communication
3 credits
This course considers the expansive opportunities presented by technology in communication as well as elements of traditional communication. Students will study the impact of social media, public relations, advertising, visual communication and other elements from an executive perspective of brand development and support. Cultural considerations will be included in regard to best practices for global brand positioning.

Capstone
3 credits
This course is an opportunity for students to apply all they have learned in their previous Global Fashion Merchandising Graduate Courses to a real-life scenario. Application of strategic planning, branding, commerce models, competitive analysis, and industry forecasting will inform the student in the construction of a capstone project in reply to a contemporary industry challenge. Students will pair with a partnering business鈥檚 executive team, to pursue a proposal that explores a new business challenge, evaluates the current business profile, or pursues a new opportunity. Alternatively, with the approval of the professor, students may pursue an entrepreneurial-based project. The course ends with a written and live (or teleconferenced) presentation and capstone defense to a team of business stakeholders and faculty. Partner-based projects may take place in any world fashion capital, pending partnership availability, including New York, Paris, Florence, London, Hong Kong or other.
