Alexis Haskell
Visiting Assistant Professor of Journalism
Bio
Lexi is a journalism scholar interested in contemporary problems facing the journalistic field. She recently graduated from Temple University with a Ph.D. in Media & Communication, where her dissertation investigated how The New York Times' Games product has become a remarkably successful response to contemporary crises over revenue and relevance. Adopting historical and sociological approaches, Lexi's research locates the origins of The New York Times' use of puzzles and games for profit, respect, and audience engagement to World War II-era newspaper publishing needs. Other research focuses on how journalists cope with contemporary working conditions, from overwork to social media/digital journalism to threats to press freedom. In her free time, Lexi enjoys going to the movies, cross-stitching, and vintage shopping for her apartment.
