Choose a Major to Drive Your Goals

Marist University鈥檚 Chemistry program is approved by the American Chemical Society. Students gain extensive hands-on experience with modern instrumentation and develop strong communication and technological skills. Four degree options are available, each supporting different academic and career goals. Students who complete the required ACS curriculum may earn an ACS-certified degree.

BS in Chemistry

The BS in Chemistry provides a broad and rigorous foundation across the major areas of chemistry, including analytical, inorganic, organic, physical, and biological chemistry. Students gain extensive laboratory experience, work with modern instrumentation, analyze chemical data, and may participate in faculty-mentored research. The degree prepares students for careers throughout the chemical sciences and related industries, as well as graduate study in chemistry and other scientific fields.

BS in Chemistry with Biochemistry Option

The BS in Chemistry with the Biochemistry Option combines a strong foundation in chemistry with greater emphasis on biological systems and the chemical processes of living organisms. Students study areas such as biological molecules, enzymatic reactions, metabolism, and molecular methods while developing laboratory, instrumentation, data-analysis, and research skills. The degree provides strong preparation for careers in the chemical, pharmaceutical, biotechnology, and biomedical fields, as well as graduate study and health-professions programs.

BA in Chemistry

The BA in Chemistry provides a broad foundation in chemistry with greater flexibility to pursue coursework in complementary areas such as biology, education, business, or computer science. The degree is well suited for students interested in health-professions programs, secondary-school teaching, or careers that combine scientific knowledge with communication, business, or other fields.

BA in Biochemistry

The BA in Biochemistry combines the study of chemistry and biological systems with the flexibility to pursue additional coursework in areas such as biology, psychology, or other health-related fields. The degree provides strong preparation for health-professions programs and for careers or graduate study in biomedical, pharmaceutical, biotechnology, and related fields.
